Oliver Stone's Son is Shocked to Find Islamophobia in Hollywood - The artist formerly known as Sean Stone, now known as Sean Christopher Ali Stone due to his conversion to Shiite Islam, is expressing shock at the reaction in Hollywood due to his sudden change in faiths, according to the New York Post.
Stone, the son of the more famous filmmaker Oliver Stone, is finding people in the film industry are suddenly reluctant to work with him now that he has said, "There is no God but God, and Mohammed is his prophet."
Hollywood has always been sanctimonious when it comes to just about everything. One aspect has been the marked reluctance to produce films and TV shows that depict Islamist terrorists as villains. Aside from some episodes of "24" and a handful of films like "The Kingdom," Hollywood fare in the war on terror has tended to depict Americans as the heavies.
Big Hollywood noted that after almost a decade of anti-American movies such as "Stop Lost," "Lions for Lambs" and "In the Valley of Elah," the film industry has been scratching its collective head over why War on Terror movies have not done well at the box office.
The first really big pro American War on Terror film, "Act of Valor," has eschewed a Hollywood cast for active duty Navy SEALs playing their movie counterparts. The movie takes an outside the box approach of depicting Americans as the heroes and terrorists as the villains. The Huffington Post is not pleased about this. If the movie makes it big at the box office, a lot of people in tinseltown will not be pleased.
It is no wonder the younger Stone is shocked that people in the film industry have stopped returning his phone calls. While converting to Islam in the very heart of a country that is hell bent on acquiring nuclear weapons to use on just about anyone has an in-your-face aspect to it, Stone must have believed the only negative reaction would come from the yokels out in the red states and not people who greenlit movies like "Rendition" and "Redacted." It is not as if he was planning to fly an airplane into the upcoming Oscar ceremony (though that would be the only thing that might increase that annual event's TV ratings.)
